Distances to targets for our matches |
Everybody wants to know how far they'll be shooting, and at what targets. Well, here's the info:
Hunter Class: 40 targets. Hit or miss. Distances out to 500 yds, but targets will be more generous than last year. Expect 2 MOA or larger. One of our shooters generously donated an old 3-D antelope target so it will be out there - we'll put a steel flash target behind the brisket area, should be fun. Precision Class: 60 targets, hit or miss. Expect oddball distances with a couple of shots out at 1200 yds. The 1200 target is fairly large, but anything at 1200 is tiny. Most other targets will be MOA or so. Targets: All of the targets are steel. They are hardened steel and should resist penetration. Spotting will be the key, so make sure that whoever spots for you is qualified. (for those unfamilliar: in long range you are NOT listening for a ping, you are looking for a grey poof of lead - sound doesn't carry well past about 650 yds but for Hunter class most hits should be pretty obvious - also the targets are mostly all suspended by some method so if they get hit, they will swing wildly - if they only wiggle the bullet likely went through the rubber belt holding the target)
All of the distances are really dependent on the course layout which isn't done yet. We marked the shooting positions but the targets aren't out in the field yet as it's been too muddy. Regardless, it's always a work in progress, and this will be the first year at a new location. We appreciate your help and understanding - comments are most welcome and if we all help it should get better every year. |
